Breathing Someone Else's Air, 2020
Sun prints on cotton
With heavy inspiration from Homi K. Bhabha’s Third Space Theory, the body of work Breathing Someone Else’s Air investigates and portrays the feelings behind being physically and mentally distanced from two separate countries– one of nationality and the other residence- the United States and Australia. With a love for the news and media, the artist has created an array of chemical sun prints utilising digitally manipulated and exaggerated images from online news sources. The works investigates and stylistically conveys the artist’s true feelings about personal identify during both a global pandemic and U.S. national election. What is real?, what is skewed?, and how do we internalise the news and physical worlds around us?
